Telunas Island

30/5/2019
The reception called at 4.22am announcing our taxi was waiting. We rode 45 min to the airport, no traffic jams at that time although quite some movements in town as people are eating before the break of dawn. Still 5 days to go before the end of Ramadan.

We printed our boarding passes, dropped the bags and cleared all security rather swiftly. The KLIA 2 (KL's bigger airport) is huge, but organised. So all is good.We boarded our flight on time and headed for Singapore and Indonesia.

Landed in Singapore 5 min ahead of schedule. By the way Air Asia is very impressive. Clean new airplanes and in flight food is cheap - in adequacy with the tickets I would say.

Once in Singapore, you realise immediately you are not in Malaysia anymore. Everything is super clean and extremely efficient. We breezed through security in a flash - no queues because there were plenty of desks open (I’m looking at you Heathrow Airport).Evidently our suitcases were waiting for us on the luggage belt. We got them went out and jumped in a taxi.

We wanted to reach the seafront port as quickly as possible to have a chance to change our 15.10 ticket to an 11.10 one and “gain” 4 hours ...

Our driver was one of those guys who gives you a touristic and historical and geopolitical tour of the island while driving you to your destination. He made sure we reached on time and we boarded the earlier ferry to the Indonesian Port on the other side.

There we were greeted by Nomen from the Telunas resort who grouped us for a short taxi ride to another sea terminal. From there we took a 35 seater wooden boat powered by 2x150hp Yamaha outboard motors. We were just 1.5hrs away from our magical islands.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the most amicable hosts that one could imagine. They served us a refreshing smoothie of blended cucumber and fruits. Exactly what we needed!

Ahoy - Telunas ahead

We had a tasty lunch and moved into our house which stood on water. It was basic but cozy. And what a view from the balcony. That night we slept again like logs, hitting the sack at about 9pm and waking up 10hrs later.

Happy birthday Roxana!
We woke up to the sounds of the girls wishing Roxana a happy birthday. We got ready and went for breakfast. We were met there with a platter of fresh papaya, melons and watermelons. Delicious. The girls had pancakes with maple syrup.

After that we began a coconut leaf weaving workshop during which we manufactured ceremonial swords. Mara and Luca were the best of us all. Luca was almost 5 year old and together with his mum and dad, was also spending time on the island.

Then came the surprise: Petra, Rosa and Yani had made a special birthday cake for Roxana and they brought it out singing happy birthday.

We popped a champagne bottle open and had some cake and bubbles with Ling and David (Luca's mum and dad).

After that we went back and played some Ludo with the girls, waiting for lunch time!
Again a great meal with salad, beef in Indonesian Balang sauce and a sponge cake in toffee and vanilla ice cream.

After lunch and before the kids club activities begun we had time to squeeze in some paddle and kayak with David and Luca.

Then Roxana for her long awaited massage while Lea went for a nap and Mara made some dinosaurs with cardboard and watercolour at the kids club : order in the universe.

We had something slightly more challenging planned. After breakfast we took a boat and went to the island which was on the other side of the channel.

We had some low ropes traversée on the menu. Upon reaching the island we started climbing to the fun place. A short 15 min later we were there. Everyone had some fun and even Mara and Lea did some rope traversée.

After that we had a nice swim in the warm lagoon and then went back just in time for more swimming pool and lunch.

After lunch we started packing again and then when the kids went to the kids club we had some nice adult time by the pool sipping a cocktail!

We then tried our luck with fishing and only Roxana caught something...a crab!

That evening more families arrived as it was a Saturday and the following week was going to be school holidays for many Singaporeans.

After a lobster dinner we went to a greatly awaited bonfire and marshmallow party. But it never materialised as the wood was wet and the staff had all the trouble in the world to light it.
After 20 min and about 1 liter of motor kerosene, we called it a night and left with some pretty disappointed children.

Last supper!

The next day we had breakfast and left, back to Singapore.
